Tony’s Town Square

October 2008    Submitted by Karen

We had 5:30 ADRs at Tony’s Town Square on Monday 10/27/08.  We were seated a
few minutes later.  Our family has food intolerances (we are all gluten free) so we always need to see the chef before ordering.  After Becca took our drink orders, Chef Charles came out to speak with us about the menu.  He let us know that he could make just about anything on the menu.  The kids got macaroni & cheese and a pizza.  My husband ordered the salmon and I ordered spaghetti with meatballs.  Since Chef Charles seemed so comfortable with gluten free dining, I asked if he could make us some garlic bread.  Five minutes later we had two plate of hot garlicky roll with butter on the table.  This may not sound too exciting, but it is a big deal for a family that can’t eat wheat!

The adult dinners were delicious.  The kids liked the Mac & cheese, but weren’t crazy about the pizza.  (This was not Tony’s fault, just the nature of gf pizza – and also maybe because they each had a whole roll before dinner).  The dinner price was very reasonable and we packed up enough extra food for the kids to have a whole other meal.  We were too full to take advantage of all the desserts they had available.  Becca stopped by our table frequently to see if we needed anything and even brought me a refill iced-tea before I had a chance to ask.  As we left, the Spectro-Magic Parade was just about to start and we were able to walk out of the restaurant right to great viewing spots on the sidewalk.

On a return trip to this same restaurant a few months later Chef Charles came through again.  More garlic bread, spaghetti and meatballs and the best gf birthday cake ever!

Tony's for lunch before ME- I really wanted a flatbread again (esp. the Bianca!) but alas, it was Amy's again. The chef said he could make Chicken Parmigiana without the breading. That's what I got. Now, I've tried rice pasta at home, and didn't care for it. This was way different pasta, and it was great. I would totally get this again. I didn't get the Pistachio Creme Brulee for dessert as recommended by the chef. Great food, and great service.

Crystal Palace

We had a 11:30 ADR on 10/29/08 for lunch at the Crystal Palace.  We checked in a few minutes ahead of time and did not wait more than 10 minutes to be called for our table.  The restaurant had just turned over from breakfast and was mostly empty when we sat down.   The characters began arriving as the waitress was taking our drink orders. Our family has food intolerances (all of us are gluten free) and we always need to see the chef before ordering.  It took a little longer than usual for the chef to come out.  The chef took us on a tour of the buffet.  There were plenty of items we could eat and the chef offered to make us a few of the dishes that were off limits.  The chef brought us some gluten free rolls and checked on the brand of blue cheese in the salad for me.   The buffet had some interesting dishes that I really enjoyed (especially the ginger cucumber salad).   Everyone in our family found something they liked – the kids each had a hard boiled egg.  Our waitress stopped by frequently to check on drinks and dishes.  We took pictures with the characters early on in our meal and waved to them as they passed by a second time.  It was a enjoyable meal and we would certainly go again.

Cinderella’s Royal Table - Dinner

October 2008    Submitted by Karen

We had dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table on 10/29/08.   We had 8pm reservations for four adults and no children.  Getting to the check in booth was a little dodgy since it was just after the parade and just before the fireworks.  The back entrance was roped off and we had to make our way all the way around to the front of the castle.  Once there, we were taken right in to have our picture taken,  then just a moments wait to go upstairs.  We were in the last time slot for reservations, so the castle was beginning to clear out as we arrived.   Just as we sat down the fireworks started, which we could see partly out of the window – what a treat!  Our waiter Christopher was a hoot and was well suited to the part of the responsible castle servant.  He kept out drinks refilled and was nearby if we needed him.  Since my husband and I have food intolerances (we are both gluten free), we always need to see the chef before ordering.  The chef came out quickly and went through the menu with us.  There was only one item that he could not make for us (the tortellini – no surprise there).  I had the BLT salad, which not only tasted terrific, but looked very elegant too.  My husband had the pork chop, which he quite enjoyed.  I had the lamb chops and they were wonderful.  Our friends both had the prime rib and reported that it was delicious.   For dessert we had mocha espresso crème brule and berry sorbet.  Both were excellent.

As we finished our meal, we all wondered about the bad reviews we had read.   We all agreed that the food and service were excellent.   Part of the reason that I enjoyed my meal so much was that we didn’t have any children with us (they stayed at the hotel with a babysitter).  It was a treat not to have to have crayons on the table or cut anybody’s food.  I don’t know that my 2 and 6-year-old children would have enjoyed dinner as much as we did and I would have found it very stressful to keep them quiet and entertained.   In my opinion, the dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table is best suited for adults and older children.

Cinderella’s Royal Table - Breakfast

October 2008    Submitted by Karen

We had a 10:10 ADR for breakfast at the Castle on 10/31.  We were prepared to wait in line with our two small children (6 and almost 3) so we brought stickers and coloring books with us.  Although the line was somewhat long, it moved pretty quickly.  Since it was Halloween, our 6-year-old daughter wore her Ariel costume to the park and fit right in with all the other little girls in their princess gowns.   We were seated right by a window and had a wonderful view of Fantasy Land. Our family has food intolerances (all of us are gluten free) and we always need to see the chef before ordering.   The chef came right out and assured us that a gluten free breakfast would be no problem.   Since we could not eat the potato casserole or French toast, our plates had hash browns and gluten free waffles instead.  We all enjoyed our breakfast and our waitress kept our coffee and juice glasses filled.  The restaurant was very crowded when we arrived, but really cleared out.  We did not feel rushed at all as the staff began setting up for lunch.  This was our last day of vacation and we had seen enough princesses during the week.  A quick hello and photo with each character was just fine with us.  IMHO, I think that breakfast is a much more child friendly meal at Cinderella’s castle than dinner.

Snacks

Things we have tried from the snack carts:  Chocolate Covered Bananas (let them warm up for a few minutes - they are very hard!), Popcorn, Mickey Ears Ice Cream Bar,
